GP OF TURKEY. FIRST QUALIFYING PRACTICE
THE WORLD CHAMPION GETS TO GRIPS WITH TURKEY
Dani starts out with the seventh fastest time in Istanbul, just behind Aoyama

Daniel Pedrosa was back on track at the Grand Prix of Turkey today and started the weekend in relaxed mood as he gathered his first references of the Istanbul circuit.

The Spaniard also began set-up work for his Honda at a track he described as ‘strange’ and bumpier than he had expected because of the Formula 1.

Dani started out in Istanbul with the seventh fastest time in the first qualifying practice, just behind his team-mate Hiroshi Aoyama, who says the track reminds of him of a typical Japanese venue.

DANI PEDROSA (7th, 1’58”441): “I took the two sessions calmly, with it being the first day on a new track. It was quite a tough day because we have had to make quite a lot of adjustments, especially to the gearbox and suspension, and we don’t have any references. The objective is to learn the circuit and find out where the limit is, choose the tyres... The circuit isn’t like the others and I don’t like it too much – it’s a little strange. It is wide and the circuit is a little bumpy, probably because of the Formula 1, but the grip level is good. It has a few good overtaking points, constant changes in the level and some unusual corners. My shoulder is better although in the afternoon I had a little more pain, which I suppose is down to the cold and humidity. I’m not thinking about the pain when I ride anymore though.”

HIROSHI AOYAMA (6th, 1’58”263): “In general I like the circuit because some of the sections remind me of a typical Japanese track. It links slow sections with fast corners and it is difficult to find the right line and the braking markers because it is very wide and easy to make mistakes until you fully adapt. The fast section is the one I’m finding hardest at the moment.”
