VOLVO OCEAN RACE 2005 - 2006
THE “MOVISTAR” IS GRATEFUL FOR THE COUNTLESS MESSAGES OF SUPPORT RECEIVED
Repairs started on the boat yesterday, in Portimao (Portugal)

Yesterday, “movistar”s third day in the Portimao Marina – Portugal, the crew of the Spanish Round the World boat started repairs on the Volvo Open 70.

The Spanish Round the World team, the “movistar”, would like to thank all the institutions and people who have shown their support since the Royal Sanxenxo Sailing Club boat suffered a collision that has temporarily forced it out of the first stage of the Volvo Ocean Race between Vigo and Cape Town (South Africa).

The first calls enquiring about the health of the crew and the state of the boat came from the Royal Family, from both H.M. the King and H.R.H. Princess Cristina. His Majesty the King of Spain crewed on the boat for the inshore regatta in Sanxenxo, as well as firing the starting gun for the fleet, on Saturday 12th of November, from aboard the Goteborg, and H.R.H. Princess Cristina witnessed the start of the Round the World Race in Vigo, apart from crewing on the “Pirates of the Caribbean”.

The Secretary of State for Sport, Jaime Lissavetzky, the President of the Galicia Regional Government, Emilio Perez Tourińo, his wife Esther Cid –the boat’s Godmother–, the mayors of Vigo and Sanxenxo, the Secretary General of Sports of the Galicia Regional Government, and main sailing clubs of Galicia and the Real Celta de Vigo Club, the sailing federations of Galicia and Spain and hundreds of fans and followers of the Spanish team have all shown their support.

The team would also like to thank all the high tech companies that have offered to work with the team, one of the first of which was the Desafio Espańol, the Spanish America’s Cup candidate, and especially the media for the interest and support they have shown in these difficult times for the team.
