CZECH REPUBLIC GRAND PRIX. OFFICIAL REPORT: RACE

Fecha 22-08-2004

DANIEL PEDROSA

(3rd): “I am disappointed with this result. We tried to stop the race twice and they didn’t pay any attention to us. At the end I escaped and it may seem as though the easiest thing was to put my hand up and stop, but the truth is that is was really wet - De Angelis crashed and I was about to as well. Porto and De Puniet saw that they could catch me, for once they didn’t complain and that meant that the race wasn’t stopped. I am a bit disappointed about that but third place is also good in these circumstances. I almost crashed again and just decided to finish the race – 16 points are better than none.”

HIROSHI AOYAMA

(7th): “I would prefer to forget about this race as soon as possible and start looking ahead to the two days of tests we have here before going to Estoril, where I am hoping for a good result at last. I think I got a really good start to the race but the confusion over whether they were going to stop it or not put me off completely, and I lost a lot of positions. Then it was impossible to catch the lead group. I didn’t really understand what was happening.”

ALBERTO PUIG

(Team manager): “The end of the race was a shame because Dani had it won. We don’t understand the decision by race direction and I think that, once again, they have made a mistake. The riders know better than anybody else what the conditions are like on the track at any time but they tried to stop it twice and they were ignored. The most important thing is that Dani showed he would have won.”
